Does meditation have an objective?
Meditation has an objective. People meditate for different reasons. The primary one is to release stress which affects the quality of our lives.
Ideally Guided meditation sessions should have an objective. The objective decides the flow of the meditation. For instance, if the objective of the meditation is forgiveness and letting go, the mentor guides the session to help the participants in forgive and let go. As per the level of the meditation practice of the participants, the mentor decides the depth and the duration of the session.
The meditation should be done regularly to experience its benefits. It can help release trapped negative emotions like fear, anxiety, anger, guilt, regret, blame etc.
It not only releases the negative but also reinforces positive emotions with in us. It activates the happy hormones and helps in maintaining good physical and mental health. In one of the researches, it was found that meditation is particularly effective in migraines.
The primary requirement of Guided meditation is a trusted mentor who can gently guide you through the process and who knows the technique and has the experience. Meditation with a guide improves focus and gives a sense of direction. It helps in not getting swayed by external distractions.
Different kinds of Guided Meditations.
As mentioned earlier every guided Meditation should have a purpose, an objective, and a goal. What you want to experience and where you want to reach at the end of the meditation should be clear.
Guided meditation is like a chariot which takes the participant to the desired destination. The mentor is the charioteer who must know the way forward. A skilled charioteer will know that there will be roadblocks on the way, the path may be long, and the journey may take some time. It requires patience, skill and vision.
Depending upon the objective and the goal there can be different kinds of meditations. Let me take you through some.
Gratitude Meditation
As the name suggests, this meditation focusses on Gratitude. It’s about appreciating what we have and being thankful for all the blessings we have in our lives. In one of the research mentioned in Harvard Health Publishing , It was seen that practicing gratitude made people more optimistic and they felt better about their lives. There was also a huge increase in their happiness scores.
We all yearn for happiness and joy in our lives. Happiness and peace of mind is our goal. We keep searching for happiness, not realizing that happiness is within us in the form of gratitude.
It helps us to manage our mind when we are going through tough times. It helps us to stay grounded when we are in a all time high.
Expressing gratitude is a divine gift which we must respect and practice. Guided Gratitude meditation is a process which helps us in the overall well-being. Research shows that it reduces depression and anxiety. It encourages better sleep and reduces stress.
Love and kindness Meditation
Love is the essence of our existence. Expressing love and kindness is what keeps us alive and gives us a sense of belongingness. It restores faith in relationships and in humanity in general.
In one of the research , Barbara Fredrickson and colleagues concluded that Loving kindness meditation helps increase positive emotions and decrease negative emotions.
In yet another research , it was found that this meditation can decrease chronic pain.- low back pain.
Mindfulness Meditation
The term mindfulness refers to being aware and living in the present moment. It has seen to reduce stress and anxiety. Meditation is a practice of focused concentration. It helps us to stay in the moment and watch our thoughts like an observer.
This meditation can be practiced through observing your breath and gradually moving towards more subtle thoughts and emotions.
Forgiveness Meditation
We all know that forgiveness gives the person a new lease of life. When someone who you love, hurts you, the pain is unbearable and the path to forgiving that person seems impossible. The greater the pain, greater is the difficulty level of forgiveness.
While we struggle to forgive someone for hurting us, we are equally struggling to forgive ourselves for the mistakes which we have done in the past. In both the scenarios, Guided meditation focusing on Forgiveness helps immensely.
Full Moon Meditation
Full moon is a glorious time to meditate. Guided meditation on this day/night has a powerful effect on our mind, body, and soul. This is the time when the potent energy of the full moon helps us to delve deeper with in and cleanse our toxic energy. It helps replaces the negative with the positive.
The full moon has a huge impact on the water element. If you have noticed that there is a high tide on the full moon day. If this energy can affect the ocean. it can impact our body which constitutes almost 70% water.
I strongly recommend meditating on Full Moon and New Moon Day.
Have a beautiful meditation.
